One thing we found different about Italy was the hotel layout. There was a lot of "apartment-style" hotels with shared kitchen and living room space where guests could mingle with other travellers from around the world. When we visited Milan, Italy on Monday 18th March 2019, we stayed at one, the BeHome - Porta Romana, from booking.com, for $182 AUD.
Disclosure: We want to share our hotel experiences with details and honesty since there are a lot of sponsored/fake content out there. Also, we might re-book a place and this helps us remember where we stayed LOL. Our photos were taken on our Sony RX100V and we did not use a wide angle lens.
This hotel was located two train stops from the Duomo di Milano. It was approx. 7 minute walk from the station. We found it very convenient.
It was located on the second floor of a building and when we checked in, the host was sitting in the living room filling in our details. It was very similar to an airbnb, except our room was like a "bedroom" of an "apartment, separated by a single lock. We had never experienced hotel/airbnb like this before so we found it peculiar.
Bed: Very comfortable and soft with slight firmness.
Cleanliness: 10/10, super clean.
Space: There was not much space other than around the bed and the bathroom but we loved the design of the room.
Noise: We slept like a baby throughout the night.
Air-conditioning: Running silently and kept the room well ventilated.
Technology: Charging ports were next to the bed. Wi-Fi was fast.
Bathroom: Lighting matched the interior, with dim settings.
Extras: We really enjoyed the modern, sleek design of the bathroom.
Amenities: There was tea, coffee and snacks in the shared kitchen space.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. We did not use the kitchen or living space much as we were only there for one night.
We did use the hot tub but there was a leak in the "hot water" knob and faucet so we ended up heating up water with the kettle and pouring it in 😂 We told the owner about the leakage issues the next day and she informed us she had it fixed that week so if you're considering visiting Milan, you can book a room here.
