Todai-ji temple is one of the Seven Great Temples, housing the largest bronze statue of Buddha. This temple opened in 752 CE. Located in Nara, Japan, it is now a famous must-visit hot spot for travelers. Here are some snapshots from April 2019.
As you can see, it was really, really crowded. This group of tourists and school kids were all headed to the entrance of the temple.
After passing through the entrance, there was a chozubachi for visitors to wash their hands. The entrance fee was ¥600 per person.
This gold statue is the Bodhisattva of Wisdom and Memory.
This interesting fellow is one of the pairs of guardians for Buddha.
This hole is called "Buddha's Nostril'. It is believed that if you can successfully crawl through the hole, you'll receive enlightenment in your next life. Of course, any chance for benefits in life and I've already done it 😄. The file I uploaded is a video of my attempt.
This gold statue on the left of Buddha is the Bodhisattva of Compassion.
My family were stopped by a group of school kids and handed these pamphlets and tea. The teacher said they were promoting tourism for an assignment and then took a photo of us LOL.
Thanks for reading.
