Shabu shabu is the Japanese term for hot pot, with thinly sliced meats and vegetables boiled in soup and dipped in sauces. There is usually a variety of soup bases, such as soy, sukiyaki, tomato and shoyu. The term shabu shabu is an onomatopoeia for the sounds emitted when cooking the ingredients in the pot 😆
We've had shabu shabu a few times in Japan so here is a compilation of snapshots. There aren't many places that do this cuisine in Sydney but DIY is not hard to achieve; all you need is raw thin slices of meats, vegetables, sukiyaki sauce and a pot of water.
